What is Oxycodone UK?

It is a prescription medication sold under the brand name OxyContin among other names. Oxycodone is an opioid medication which is also known as narcotic. It was firstly synthesized from thebaine in Germany in 1916. Oxycodone was 54th most prescribed medication in the U.S.

How should I use Oxycodone UK?

You should take this medication exactly as per your doctor’s recommendation. You can take this medication by mouth with or without food as prescribed by your doctor.

Usually, doctors prescribe the lowest dosage at the start of treatment which you can increase during the procedure. You should take immediate-release tablets, capsules, and liquid with food or milk to avoid stomach problems.

Dosage:

Usual adult dose for pain (Immediate release)

  • Initial dosage: You can take 5 mg to 15 mg for every 4-6 hours as needed and advised by your health advisor.

Usual Dosage for the Child (0 to 17 years)

Oxycodone should not be used in the people younger than 18 years of age.

Usual Adult Dosage for Chronic Pain:

*Extended-release

  • Initial dosage for the non-tolerant patients: 10 mg orally for every 12 hours
  • Initial dosage for the tolerant patients: A single daily dosage higher than 40 mg
  • Maximum dosage: 80 mg per day

*Immediate release:

Typical starting dosage: 5 mg to 15 mg orally for 4 to 6 hours

What happens if I miss a dose?

You are advised to take all proper dosage at the time as scheduled by the medication guide and your doctor. If you have missed a dose in any case, use it as soon as you remember but if it is already time for the next dosage, skip the missing dose and take the scheduled one.

Never take two or more than two dosages at one time to make up the missed doses.

What happens if I overdose?

You should not take Oxycodone overdosage; it may cause some adverse effects.
